Nuruzzaman Ahmed (born 3 January 1950)[1] is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the incumbent Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Lalmonirhat-2 constituency since 2014.[2] He is the current minister of social welfare.[3][4] Earlier, he served as the state minister of social welfare and state minister of food.[5]
Background
Ahmed's father, Karim Uddin Ahmed, served as a Jatiya Sangsad member from the Rangpur-6 constituency during 1973-1975.[6]
Career
Ahmed became the Minister of State in the Ministry of Food On 14 July 2015, a year after becoming a member of parliament.[7][8] He held the post from June 21 of the same year to January 8, 2019. After winning the Eleventh Parliamentary Election, he has been serving as a Minister of the same Ministry since January 8, 2019.
According to a report published by Prothom Alo in September 2023, Ahmed's family had unpaid electricity bill of Tk 9 lakh.[6]
Personal life
Ahmed is married to Hosne Ara Begum.[7] They have three children including Rakibuzzaman Ahmed.[7] In August 2023, Rocky Chandra Roy, an executive engineer of Nesco Kaliganj Sales & Distribution Division, accused Rakibuzzaman for assaulting him.[9][10]
